According to an e-mail from the pop star, published in Malawian newspaper The Nation on Sunday, Madonna wants to provide for orphaned young girl Chifundo “Mercy” James, despite a judge’s rejection of her adoption application.
In 2006, Madonna adopted David Banda from the African nation. However, on April 3, her adoption of Mercy was rejected over a law requiring 18 to 24 months of residency in the country, a legality that caused controversy during her adoption of David. Madonna’s lawyer confirmed to the Associated Press that the pop star was appealling the verdict not long after the judge’s decision was handed down.
